A standard glass revolving door has been modified so that each of its four wings is fitted with a highly realistic trout mounted at face height. As visitors push through the door, the fish rotate with the mechanism. Depending on timing, speed, and confidence of entry, participants may receive a gentle or unexpectedly theatrical slap from a passing trout.
The work is accompanied by a wall label:
A Revolving Door of Slapping Trouts (2026)
Mixed media, kinetic intervention, piscine percussion.
The artist explores systems of passage, dignity, and inevitability. The revolving door represents institutional process. The trout represents feedback. The slap occurs at the precise moment an individual believes they understand how the system works.
A hidden motor occasionally accelerates the door by 3%, creating uncertainty among repeat visitors and preventing the formation of "trout mastery".
Critics are divided. Some describe the piece as "a devastating critique of modern transit architecture." Others note that it is, fundamentally, "a revolving door full of slapping trouts."
Both readings are considered correct.
