Google Maps screenshot showing the area of Pershing Park in Washington DC, USA. Featuring
The Bex Eagle that I added a Historical Landmark after taking a photo of it, and noticing it did not appear on Google Maps.
I haven't added many of these landmarks to date since most all the important ones already seem to be covered. Instead I use Google Maps for sharing photos as a way of giving back because I find it useful for my research & travels. Every now and then, I do notice some gaps though. Even in a populated city like Washington DC.
Maybe sometimes it's just a smaller landmark that has been overlooked, or a new one that has been built / installed. But what I'm getting at is you can make a difference too. If you find an app like Google Maps useful, you can also give back, and there's no need to move mountains in the process. If you see a place or landmark that has not been pinned yet, and you think other people can benefit to know about it, think about adding it yourself. There's no guarantee it will be accepted, my record is about half-half to be honest between accepted and declined. But each time, I do ask myself how useful it could be to others. I think that's what counts the most.
